My Newsletter is about Bullying in our schools. It is also about how history has taught us that starting small and working through our human nature can solve a growing problem.
This is an excellent topic to explore because it is such a huge problem in schools today. Bullying has seemed to escalate over the years and happens to be one of the top causes of suicide today. With the use of internet it makes it easier for kids to be cyberbullied. These poor kids never seem to be able to get away from being picked on. So what can they do is the question? There are programs in the schools that prevent bullying. There is something at the high school I used to go to that was called CASS. It was a program of about 30 students. They were there to help kids and if you had a problem you were supposed to feel free to talk to them about it. The problem with this is that sometimes students don't like to talk to there peers. Or another incident I noticed was some people being in the organization that probably weren't nice enough to be in there. Do you have some type of organization for bullying in your school? If not you should consider bringing it up at your school. If it is done the right way, I think it could become very popular. We need to learn to work through our problems and not just take everything out with anger towards other people.
It's so hard for the victims to cope with going to school every day to get picked on. What some may not realize, is that that attitude is carried on home where they could have additional problems. This depression just keeps building and no one should have endure that.
I've noticed that some of the bullies tend to be jocks or "popular" kids. These kids, at least at my high school, were tied in pretty well with the faculty, especially the coaches that were also teachers. If these teachers noticed bullying, chances are they wouldn't do anything to keep the jock from getting in trouble.
For the research of this topic will it mostly be statistics and stories of the victims? What's the motivation for this topic to be brought up? And how would you be able to make an influence on bullying, no matter how many organizations and clubs there are, it seems to keep happening. The internet seems to also blow it up tremendously.
I think that is a very good topic to write on. It may be something we all notice and schools are talking about, but you have to think how effective is all this talking? It would be interesting for someone to actually expedite a set plan for stopping/ preventing bullying in all levels of schooling. Exactly the best route for doing this really just depends on the locations and severity of the situations, but I think that all in all it will be a interesting topic to report and research.
The main problem is that people may notice it and feel bad but people want to sweep it under the rug and not make the issue known because of the school district or the reputation of the school. I personally have experienced bullying in all of my years of schooling. I have been called piggy, fatty, smarty and all of the above. Internet brings a big new resource into play. A kid can jump on a computer and say whatever they want without any kind of filter or censor for cyber bullying. The industries that thrive on the internet such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace ,etc. should make some kind of pledge that says something on the lines of "I pledge not to use this site for any kind of bullying or slandering or my account will be terminated." That statement is a little brash but it needs to be something like that. If schools will make the kids feel like they are not the outsiders and that they do have somewhere to turn other than suicide or other means of expression this might help the growing problem. There are plenty of kids that are not in the "in" crowd that feel like they have some kind of standard to live up to. If you have any more comments please tell me or any questions just ask these comments made me think and I like it.
